Tooth Bonding

Bonding (Dental Bonding) is a procedure for improving the appearance of teeth, in which a composite resin is layered onto the surface of a tooth, hardened, then sculpted into the desired shape. This method can be used to reduce spaces between teeth, repair worn or chipped teeth, lengthen small teeth, or whiten stained teeth.

Bonding resins are extremely strong and wear-resistant and the bonding procedure can be completed in a single office visit, making it a good quick solution for minor cosmetic imperfections and repairs. Once resin is applied to the surface of a tooth, it is cured and hardened by flashing a harmless, high-intensity light. After smoothing out the enamel, the tooth is shaped and contoured, uneven edges are straightened, and the dentist finishes by polishing the tooth.

Dental bonding lasts about five to ten years. After that time, the process may have to be repeated, as plaque and other stains may have caused the tooth to loose its shine.
