Orthodontics - Teeth Alignment and Oral Health |
Straight Teeth: Orthodontic treatment of misaligned teeth involves the use of braces, aligners, and other corrective dental appliances. Orthodontic care, which can begin at any age, has big payoffs. The cosmetic benefits include a better smile, which in turn leads to improved self-esteem, confidence, well-being and feeling of acceptance. Another result is better jaw alignment and function and, in cases of severely crowded teeth, orthodontic treatment can correct certain jaw and facial irregularities. Benefits also include a more even bite (or occlusion), reduced risk of injury in cases of protruding front teeth, and better chewing and digestion. After orthodontic treatment, teeth are often easier to clean. Clear or "invisible" braces, such as Invisalign, are new options. They are made of transparent material, making them much less conspicuous than metal braces, and require even fewer visits to the dentist. |
